ALUMNI CHARGE NEW GRADUATES TO RISE UP

GRIL was fortunate to have two alumni discuss their own journeys with GRIL and provide encouragement and guidance to new graduates. GRIL U graduate and current Calvin College Senior, Abdoul Havugimana, shared about his experience since graduating from GRIL. Abdoul is pursuing a degree in political science and has become an active member of the community including working with the local government by advocating for just policies for refugees. When the immigration ban was imposed in February, Abdoul, an immigrant himself, felt called to stand up and speak out about what this ban means and how it affects the lives of so many people. He challenged graduates to find what they are passionate about and  join the other alumni in causing change.

Adult Breakthrough graduate and former GRIL U site leader, Rev. Laurie Zuverink, shared a story representing the journey of completing the  GRIL program. Laurie presented a compelling visual display of how a mound of clay is molded into a beautiful piece of art. The transition reflected the thoughts and feelings of all our graduates who have experienced GRIL.
