GRIL’s Activate U program held silent demonstrations on equity in education last week.  Students from various Believe 2 Become sites are participating this summer in the social justice program.  Throughout the summer, the students have researched the topic of inequity in education.  Using what they learned, and their own experiences, students created messaging to bring awareness to inequity in education.

“Silent demonstrations are a powerful way for teens to share their realities about issues that are important to them with the community. We think it’s important for students to start learning at a young age about the realities and challenges that directly impact and keep many of them marginalized, while identifying best practice strategies to employ with dealing with these inequities. These awareness raising efforts are just the beginning. Continued advocacy and on-going efforts are needed to meaningfully address some of these long lasting, systemic issues.” -Jevon Willis, associate director and Activate U curriculum author.
