If you could draw a picture of your ideal community, what would it look like?  What types of resources and structures would it have?  The GRIL U teens recently had the opportunity to discuss community capacity building and what a healthy and productive community would look like for them.

Last week, the GRIL U teens went on asset mapping walks of their ministry neighborhoods.  They took a look at spacing, buildings, and the history of the community.  They learned how to survey neighborhoods by observing if there were renters vs owners, one family vs two family homes, housing with children and several other characteristics.  They focused on what the assets of the community were and listened to neighbors, community organizers and business owners to hear their perspective and commitment to those neighborhoods.

Have you recently learned about the history and story of your neighborhood?  What are your neighborhood’s assets?  Do you consider yourself one of those assets?
