There was a buzz of excitement in the lobby of the Gezon Center at Calvin College Wednesday evening, June 5! Adults and teens and their families and friends were milling about, looking at displays ranging from skateboards to poster boards. Each display exhibited someone’s ‘Aha’ moment of what they were meant to be or do – their Breakthrough Plan.

The Breakthrough Plan exhibit is followed by a graduation ceremony during which GR Initiative for Leaders (GRIL) honored nine adult Community Leadership Program graduates, 23 GRIL U teen graduates and 30 Ambassador Club Ottawa Hills HS teen graduates.  The participants began their leadership training in September and finished the year in May.

A few leaders shared their thoughts about their GRIL experience through word or song or rap. There was much applause and encouragement from family and friends. Kelvin Jackson challenged the graduates to continue their leadership in our Grand Rapids community.

The participants began their leadership training in September and finished in May.  Over 3000 hours were spent in leadership training over the past year with approximately 2000 teen hours spent leading in our community!
