Jamari is a brilliant young man who is determined to make an impact in the community by creating video games to inspire learning. In high school, Jamari struggled with his grades and was on the verge of being expelled from school. After facing many obstacles, he knew that something had to be done to improve his situation.
After attending leadership trainings through the GRIL U program at Jubilee Jobs, Jamari learned about his strengths and talents. By creating goals, he recognized the importance of having an education and was able to finish school. The transformation in his life not only impacted him academically, but he began to empower his family to reach their full potential as well.
“GRIL changed my perspective on leadership. I learned that there are different types of leaders and that leaders are here to empower you. Now that I know what a leader is, I feel like I can be a leader too.”
Jamari’s transformation as a leader empowered him to teach others what he had learned. He has been a co-leader for GRIL U trainings and currently volunteers his talents by providing software updates and maintenance to the computers in the GR Initiative for Leaders’ office. Jamari is pursuing a degree in computer programming and game design, while also working to help support his family.
Many times, we focus on what is wrong with our youth and neglect to recognize their potential. Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Because of this promise we know that everyone, like Jamari, possesses the potential to be successful and make a difference in the community.
