men • tor  n.  A wise and trusted counselor or teacher.
I have always held Tony Dungy in high regard and that is why I read, The Mentor Leader. His name lends credibility to this book that was written for men, by men.  Nathan Whitaker is the co-author, as he was with the books Quiet Strength and Uncommon. Of the three books this team has written, I regard this one to be the best.

All of the principles of servant leadership are in this book and much of it is based on Tony Dungy’s experiences in the N.F.L. He writes of the impact a leader can have in the lives of others. The book also talks about teamwork and character development. Many high profile athletes call so much attention to themselves that it undermines the team as a whole. As I look back, I can think of people who have guided and mentored me over the years, but at the time I was too young to realize it. Today I still remember the wisdom they spoke into my life, and I know am a better person because of it.

I spoke recently with a friend of mine who has mentored three boys over the years. Today the long term outlook for them does not look good. I assured him that his efforts were not in vain and that he planted a seed that will one day bear fruit. He may not be there to see it, but I believe it will happen. (1 Corinthians 3:5-8)

I believe in mentoring. For those who are in a mentoring relationship, this book will sharpen your focus.
